As a result of the historic catastrophe in which Titus of Rome destroyed Jerusalem and Israel was exiled from its land, I was born in one of the cities of the Exile.  -Shmuel Agnon

Introduction

I was born in Montreal, Canada, bred in Ohio, live in Maryland, and the first thing I do upon waking in the morning is check the weather in Israel.

This blog will serve as an outlet for my excitement, frustrations, and love of the land of Israel. It will cover a broad range of topics: the Arab-Israeli conflict, the mood of Israeli religious Zionists, the role of women in Israel, and developments in the academic yeshivah world. I plan to range from the obvious to the obscure, and blog about Israel in whatever direction my interests and current events pull me.

My slant will be that of a Zionist feminist American woman whose political views tend to the left compared to her placing on the religious scale. I write as one who lived there for a year, has family and friends there, and plans to spend the rest of my life there. As invested as I am, I am a Canadian and American citizen and love both my countries. Therefore, my perspective has a Diasporic approach to it. I am seven hours off and half a million miles away from that which lies closest to my heart. An interesting dialectic often ensues. Enjoy.
